Cycle Skills Network Audit

North East Lincolnshire

Transport Initiatives has been using its innovative Cycle Skills Network Audit for a range of clients and the results have led to interesting projects.

Tim Pheby and Ken Spence undertook an audit of North East Lincolnshire last summer. The Council have used the results to produce a new cycle map. Hard copies are naturally available but you can also download it: North East Lincs Cyclemap 2009 PDF 1.1Mb

Camden Borough

In London Mark Strong and Ken Spence have undertaken a CSNA of the whole of Camden Borough. This will lead to work on 2 school travel plan maps. Also in Camden, Mark has been working with Urban Initiatives on Camden Cycle stations.

Cycle Environment Review System (CERS)

In partnership with TRL Transport Initiatives has been developing the Cycle Environment Review System (CERS), a cycling version of TRL’s Pedestrian Environment Review System (PERS). CERS is a natural follow on from a CSNA or can be used on its own. The audit technique can compare the relative benefits of developing different proposed cycle routes and help Authorities target investment where they will get the best results.

Mark Strong has piloted CERS in two audits, first in Horsham and then in Southwater. This has enabled the methodology to be tested in real situations. As a result we will be ready to offer CERS to client jointly with TRL early in 2010.

Cycle Facilities Audit - York

Need an asset review of your highway infrastructure? Then TI can help. Tim Pheby and Ken Spence are currently carrying out an extensive audit of all cycle facilities within the outer ring road in York as part of the York Cycle City programme. The audit is looking at the location and condition of all cycle signs, parking, barriers, crossings, Advanced Stop Lines, paths and lanes. These are being logged using the Mapinfo GIS programme. Although Tim and Ken both worked for York throughout the 1990’s they are finding parts of the city that they had never seen before and discovering the considerable amount of cycle infrastructure that the council and developers have implemented. At the halfway stage this includes in excess of 1,000 signs alone.
