Travel information for Leicester Students

Rob Marshall and Steve Essex have been helping Leicester University to implement their Green Travel Plan. They were specifically asked to improve the information students are given by the University. The result is a new map of the area around the University and the main halls in Oadby. The map shows bus routes with stops and signed cycle routes. Roads and crossings are also colour coded to illustrate their safety following a Cycle Skills Network Audit. The map gives substantial information about each road and feedback suggests that Steve and Rob have achieved a product that is accessible to the potential users.

TI also looked at the carbon footprint of different means of travel to the University, concluding that the environment was best served by the students staying in bed all day – provided they didn’t burn too many slices of toast.

Comment from the University’s focus group was that 'a map like this should be available for the whole of Leicester, not just the university sector'.
